State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host an interactive workshop on climate change and sustainability from noon to 1 p.m. April 21 at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail. The free workshop, which will be held on Earth Day in the Selby Room, Building 800, is open to the public as well as students, faculty and administrators.

Dr. William “Coty” Keller and volunteers from the local chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby will present the workshop. A short video will be shown at the beginning of the session to frame the climate change discussion. Participants will break into three groups to brainstorm solutions to the problem using federal government processes, economic processes and psychology to motivate change. Participants will return after 25 minutes to share their group’s ideas and solutions.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby is an international nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organization focused on national policies to address climate change. Its goal is to educate and create a broad, sustainable foundation for climate action across all geographic regions and political inclinations. By building upon shared values rather than partisan divides, and empowering supporters, they work toward the adoption of fair, effective and sustainable climate change solutions. Their motto is, “Building political will for a livable world.”

The Green Team at SCF Venice organizes an annual Earth Day event to promote the environment. For more information, contact Nicolette Mason, speech communications instructor and co-chair of the Green Team, at masonn@SCF.edu or 941-408-1477.
